Oakland
The largest city in the East Bay with over 400,000 residents and
17,000 businesses, Oakland continues to evolve as a center for
commerce through a surge of new companies fueling an expanded,
diverse business mix. Oakland’s strategic location and vast
transportation arteries on land, sea, air and cyberspace enable
businesses to connect effectively with each other, the country
and the world.
As a magnet for entrepreneurs, environmentalists, scientists,
and artists, Oakland enjoys growth in existing and emerging
industries, including environmental technology, alternative
energy, healthcare, artisan foods, and international trade. The
Port of Oakland is home to the 5th busiest container port in the
country, and one of the fastest growing international airports.

Oakland’s focus on sustainability has ranked our city as the 4th
Greenest City in the U.S. by The Green Guide (2008). Home to the
8th most educated workforce in the nation, great weather,
unparalleled ethnic and cultural diversity, world-class cultural
amenities, dynamic dining and entertainment scene and plentiful
parks and open space, Oakland was recognized in 2008 by Outlook
magazine as the 19th Best U.S. City for Quality of Life.
