The East Bay Economic Development Alliance (EDA) is CHOOSING a nEW Executive Director!

Enterviews are currently being conducted for the East Bay EDA's new Executive Director, who is responsible for working with the Chair, Officers, Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the East Bay Economic Development Alliance in meeting the established strategic plan objectives related to the improvement and security of the economic health of Alameda County, Contra Costa County and member agencies.  The ideal candidate will have an established track record for leading industrial growth through expansion and retention of existing industrial bases, and attracting new industries and business as well as development of programs and resources to encourage business development.

The final filing deadline was March 31, 2010, and the goal is to have the new Executive Director on board in June 2010!

East Bay EDA's staff support is provided by Alameda County, with 6 full-time employees located in the County Administrator's office, at 1221 Oak Street, 5th Floor, in Oakland, CA.

Bruce Kern, the current Executive Director of the East Bay EDA, was the County employee tasked in 1990 with coordinating a task force of the County, the 14 cities therein and private and non-profit community leadership in response to the military base closures in the 1990s (the Naval Air Station, Alameda; the Oak Knoll Navy Hospital; Oakland Army Base; and the Oakland Fleet and Industrial Supply Center), that had a significant impact on the region.

That task group became a committee of the County that was also commissioned by the Mayors Council of Alameda County, that evolved into the Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB), and later expanded to include Contra Costa County and 13 of it's cities.  The organization's name also changed accordingly, to the Economic Development Alliance for Business (EDAB) to match the current configuration - the East Bay Economic Development Alliance (EDA).

A non-profit has been established, and the 800 plus EDA members, 123 Board of Directors, 36 some Executive Committee members, all representing the same diverse group of public, private, education, non-profit, labor and community leadership are continuing to take on the challenges and opportunities each year brings.

But Bruce Kern is retiring effective July 9, 2010 and the search for a replacement was led of course by Alameda County, Officers of the East Bay EDA and EDA President Keith Carson, Alameda County and Contra Costa Board of Supervisors and Susan Muranishi, the Alameda County Administrator.
