These 50 largest markets represent over $179 billion in annual
retail sales, and about 46% of California's annual retail sales.
The Leaders
The top five markets saw retail sales expand by double-digit levels over
the five year period. Rancho Cucamonga led the list with an annual sales
growth rate of 15.8%, followed by Fontana (13.6%), Victorville (12.9%),
Temecula (11.5%), and Corona (11.0%).
Of these 50 largest retail markets, twenty-three of the fifty realized
annual sales growth above the statewide average of 5.8%. For a complete

table in the column to the left.
The new edition of the California Retail survey provides 16 unique
market rankings that make it easy to identify the best performing areas
in the state, based on both short-term & long-term growth rates.
Using new data from the he 2008 California Retail Survey, a
summary of the growth performance of the state's major retail markets
was prepared. To be included in this analysis, a local market had to be
among the 50 largest local markets with annual retail sales in excess of
1 billion dollars.
