Redwoods, wineries, museums, street festivals, historical sites, the East Bay is brimming with summertime fun for everyone. Here are some of the favorite summertime activities, experiences, and places to go in the East Bay from East Bay EDA staff. We hope to see you there!

Bruns Amphitheater – Summertime to me means Shakespeare in the park, and I love the fact that Cal Shakes opens the theater for arts and cultural institutions from around the Bay Area. I am looking forward to former East Bay EDA colleague Jackie Keliiaa’s show there later this month (see: what’s happening).
Contra Loma Regional Park & Swim Lagoon – I love catching up with loved ones for a walk around the park and am looking forward to swimming and grilling this summer.

Chabot Space & Science Center’s Free Telescope Viewings – Every Friday and Saturday Night, Chabot’s Observatory Deck is open for free telescope viewings for visitors to explore stars, planets and more through Chabot’s historic telescopes. Even the drive along ancient redwoods and glistening views of the Bay make for summertime magic!
Biking Around East Bay – I love biking around Alameda and Point Richmond not only because they are flat, but also because I am rewarded with spectacular views and great places to eat and drink nearby, like Far West Cider Co.!

Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline – Stretching from Crockett over to Martinez, this somewhat off-the-beaten path park is one of the East Bay Regional Park District’s hidden gems, offering a variety of terrain and trails for visitors to enjoy and explore.
East Bay Golf Courses – The East Bay is home to some great public golf courses, and golf is becoming a more accessible and affordable sport for everyone in the East Bay thanks in part to great organizations like 2022 East Bay Innovation Awards nominee Ace Kids Golf, which has been operating both summer and year-round programs for young people ages 8-17 at Lake Chabot Golf Course since 1998.

Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore is a great place to relax with family and friends in the summer. The drive alone offers some of the best views of the Livermore Valley. You can bring a picnic or barbecue in plenty of shade. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a boat or pontoon for a few of hours and explore the lake. A hidden gem to many people outside of the Tri-Valley and one of my favorite East Bay Regional Parks.
The Niles Antique Fair & Flea Market in Fremont is one of the best street festivals in the East Bay that takes place the last weekend of August. Come to the main event on Sunday for street food and antique shopping or browse the many neighborhood yard sales that run all day starting Saturday morning. The 58th Annual Fair and Flea Market returns this year on Sunday, August 28 from 6 am to 4 pm.
