To celebrate the kick-off of the inaugural Livermore Valley Wine Month, East Bay EDA hosted a sponsor appreciation day in Livermore on May 2. In partnership with the Livermore Valley Wine Growers Association and Southwest Airlines, our group was treated to a VIP experience, visiting Las Positas Vineyards and Murrieta’s Well for a custom wine tasting and food pairing journey. Our group was graciously greeted by Livermore Vice Mayor Evan Branning and Brandon Cardwell, Innovation and Economic Development Director, City of Livermore. Visit our event gallery by Malcolm Wallace Photography to view photos from the day.
On the tour, we learned that Livermore Valley is one of California’s oldest wine regions and played a pivotal role in shaping California’s wine industry. Spanish missionaries planted the first grapes in the Livermore Valley in the 1760s, but it wasn’t until the 1840s that the first commercial vines were planted by Robert Livermore. Today, there are over 50 wineries in the valley. During the month of May, many wineries will be offering special experiences and events, so we encourage visiting the region now if you haven’t been before. Also, East Bay EDA has been lending its support to the recently formed Global Artisan Vinters Alliance (Global AVA), which was established to create a beneficial and sustainable alliance of partner wine regions across the globe. The organization will be hosting its inaugural global wine journey at Sip Around the World, pouring wines from Europe, North America, and South America.
East Bay EDA is committed to supporting the regional ecosystem of organizations and partners who continue to make the East Bay region a great place to live and work. Please contact us if you have any questions about our work, including inquiries related to any upcoming events, or if you would like information about membership.
